Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Who makes the jewelry?

Every piece is handcrafted by Friday Grim — a strange and lovable creature with ink-stained fingers, an affection for old bones and shiny rocks, and the kind of attention to detail that borders on ritual behavior. Nothing here is factory-made. Each piece is forged, carved, soldered, polished, oxidized, and fussed over by one human goblin in a workshop somewhere between “artist studio” and “witch’s laboratory.”

Is every piece one of a kind?

Mostly, yes.

Some designs may return in small batches like familiar spirits haunting the same crossroads, but because everything is handmade, no two pieces are ever perfectly identical. Tiny variations are part of the magic. Tool marks, asymmetry, texture, and strange little quirks are signs that your jewelry was made by human hands and not summoned from a machine crypt.

What materials do you use?

Materials vary by piece, we mostly work in sterling silver and gold, but may include bronze, brass, gemstones, found objects, ethically sourced bones, glass, enamel, reclaimed metals, or whatever shiny cursed treasure has recently entered the studio orbit.

Specific materials are always listed in each item description. If you have allergies or sensory concerns, please ask questions before purchasing. We support the ancient and sacred autistic practice of Needing To Know Exactly What Something Feels Like.

How do you ship orders?

Orders are usually shipped via USPS Priority Mail so your treasures may travel swiftly through the mortal postal realm. We mail at least once a week, and we’ll send you the tracking information as soon as we have it.

If you need a different shipping method, or are ordering from outside the US, that can absolutely be arranged — simply contact us before purchase. Additional shipping costs may apply depending on your preferred carrier, speed, or degree of moonlit urgency.

How long does it take to make and ship my jewelry?

Jewelry takes time. Metal must be melted, shaped, soldered, polished, oxidized, stared at intensely, and occasionally left alone for a few hours while the artist paces around holding tea and thinking about tiny details.

If we have the piece in stock it will mail within 1 week of payment. Most regular made-to-order items take up to 4 weeks to be completed before shipping.

Special orders, custom commissions, or unusually elaborate pieces may take 6–8 weeks depending on complexity, stone setting, sourcing materials, casting schedules, and how many tiny arcane processes are involved in bringing the object into existence.

Every piece is handmade by Friday Grim, not mass-produced in a factory dimension, so timelines can vary slightly during busy seasons, convention preparation, holidays, or periods of intense artistic alchemy.

If you need something by a specific date, please contact us before ordering and we will tell you honestly whether the timeline is possible. We would rather communicate clearly than promise impossible magic.

Why does handmade jewelry take so long?

Because handcrafted objects exist outside the logic of fast fashion and algorithmic consumption.

A single piece may involve:

  • carving wax by hand

  • making molds

  • casting metal

  • cleaning and finishing

  • soldering components

  • setting stones

  • applying patina

  • polishing

  • re-polishing because one microscopic detail suddenly became spiritually unacceptable

  • staring at the piece under three different lamps like an anxious crow

Good jewelry takes time. Thank you for being patient with the process. The tiny workshop goblins appreciate it deeply.

Do you accept returns or exchanges?

Because most pieces are handmade, limited-run, or ritualistically strange, returns are handled on a case-by-case basis.

If something arrives damaged due to craftsmanship issues, we will absolutely make it right.

Do you repair jewelry?

Yes.

We repair defects in craftsmanship for the life of the piece because we stand behind our work like a gargoyle protecting a cathedral.

However, we cannot repair damage caused by accidents, improper storage, rough wear, chemical exposure, or general mortal chaos free of charge. Jewelry is sturdy, but not invincible. Please do not wear your ceremonial silver ring while rock climbing, welding, swimming in bleach, or fistfighting cryptids.

Or do what you want, and learn the love the scars. If a repair is possible for accidental damage, we may still offer repair services for a fee.

Why is my jewelry changing color?

Because metal is alive in the same way forests, storms, and old libraries are alive.

All jewelry ages over time. Metals naturally oxidize, darken, brighten, soften, form patina, or lose the patina originally applied by the jeweler. This is normal and often beautiful. Your jewelry is reacting to air, skin chemistry, weather, time, and the strange alchemy of being carried through a human life.

Some people love this aging process. Some prefer their piece to remain closer to its original finish.

If your jewelry originally had a patina applied by the artist, we are happy to re-patina the piece back to its original appearance. The buyer simply covers shipping costs both ways.

How should I care for my jewelry?

  • Store pieces somewhere dry when not worn.

  • Avoid prolonged exposure to water, perfumes, lotions, bleach, and harsh chemicals.

  • Soft cloths are your friend.

  • Tiny treasure boxes lined with velvet are encouraged but not mandatory.

  • Please do not leave delicate jewelry loose at the bottom of a backpack dimension alongside loose keys, crystals, pocket sand, and emotional despair.

Jewelry lasts longest when treated with affection and mild caution.

Do you take custom commissions?

Sometimes.

Custom work depends on the artist’s current workload, available materials, energy levels, and whether the brain goblins are being cooperative that month. If commissions are open, there will usually be an announcement somewhere on the site or social channels.

You are always welcome to ask.

Can I wear your jewelry every day?

We hope you do! Many pieces are designed for regular wear, but handmade art jewelry is still art jewelry. Treat it kindly. Metals scratch. Stones can chip. Chains can catch. Patinas evolve.

Think of your jewelry as a beloved familiar creature rather than an indestructible appliance.

How does sizing work?

We use standard U.S. sizing scales whenever possible so you do not need to consult ancient tablets or perform divination in order to buy a ring.

Ring Sizes

Rings are sized using standard U.S. ring sizes (5, 6, 7, 8, etc., including half and sometimes quarter sizes).

If a ring’s size is listed, it has already been measured on a proper mandrel by human hands under fluorescent workshop lighting at approximately 2 a.m.

If you do not know your ring size, we strongly recommend getting measured professionally at a local jewelry shop before ordering. String-and-ruler methods from the internet can work, but they can also summon disappointment.

Necklace Lengths

Necklaces and chains are measured in inches using standard U.S. jewelry sizing conventions.

Typical lengths include:

  • 16" — close to the throat, elegant forest creature energy

  • 18" — standard everyday necklace length

  • 20–24" — lower chest / layered occult scholar look

  • Longer chains — wandering wizard territory

Please remember that necklace fit changes depending on body shape, neck size, layering, and personal sensory preferences.

Bracelets

Bracelets are measured in inches by inner circumference or total wearable length.

If you are between sizes or have sensory sensitivities around tightness, we usually recommend sizing slightly larger. Jewelry should feel companionable, not imprisoning.

What if I need a different size?

Some pieces can be resized. Some cannot. The answer depends on the design, materials, stones, structure, and how much chaos is contained within the object.

If you need a different size than the one listed, contact us before purchasing and we will tell you whether resizing is possible, what it may cost, and whether the jewelry spirits approve. We can also usually make another just for you, depending on the details.

Will handmade sizing be perfectly identical every time?

Handmade jewelry is measured carefully, but tiny variations may occur because these objects are made one at a time by an actual person and not extruded from the screaming mouth of an industrial replication engine.

That said, measurements are taken seriously and listed as accurately as possible.

Why does this website feel like a haunted library run by an autistic raccoon?

Because that is the correct atmosphere.
